Facetime over 3G network

Apple’s FaceTime is a convenient way to video chat, but it works only when you have access to a WiFi connection. So, if you want to Facetime over 3G network, you will fix the problem on how to turn 3G connection into Wi-Fi signal?

Facetime with iPhone Personal WiFi hotspot

The iPhone running iOS 4.3 or higher have the Personal Hotspot capability running on their devices. Of course, your carrier will need to enable that capability and you’ll probably need to sign up for a special Personal Hotspot data plan, but there is already Personal Hotspot functionality exists in your iPhone.

iphone4 hotspot

This means that you could set up Personal Hotspot on one iPhone (running iOS 4.3 or higher) to create your zone of Wi-Fi connectivity, then others can connect their iPhones to your Personal Hotspot. When they do so, they’re connecting via Wi-Fi and can make FaceTime connections. Continue reading

iPhone 4 personal hotspot for WiFi only iPad/iPod

Turn your WiFi iPad into iPad 3G with iPhone 4 personal hotspot

Note: The ‘iPhone Wi-Fi hotspot’ feature is for the iPhone 4 (4.3 iOS or higher) only

Apple iPad Wi-Fi + 3G is expensive than Wi-Fi iPad. But if you already have an iPhone 4, then you can save extra $130 and access 3G network with WiFi iPad by using iPhone as a 3G mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. If iPhone is using 3G connection, then you can turn on “WiFi Tethering” on iPhone and share Internet connection on other mobile devices like laptops, iPad, iPod, PSP or any other Wi-Fi enabled devices. If you want to turn on hotspot on iPhone, then here is the tutorial.

How to turn your iPhone into a 3G mobile hotspot

Upgrade your iPhone 4 to 4.3 IOS:

Just plug your iPhone 4 into PC and open iTunes, click the “check for an update” button. (If your iPhone 4 is already higher than 4.3 IOS, ignore this step)

How to set up your iPhone WiFi hotspot

Go to the settings menu, In “settings”, you’ll see a new “personal hotspot” menu item. Tap it.

set iphone hotspot

In the personal hotspot menu, slide the “personal hotspot” option to “on”.

You’ll note that Apple has allocated the connection a default password which is shown on this screen too. You can either use it (as each iPhone 4 gets a different random password) or change it to something you can more easily remember by tapping on it.

Then, on your iPad’s Wi-Fi menu, you should see your iPhone pop up in the list after a few seconds. The network name is the name of your iPhone in iTunes.

iPhone 4 + Personal Hotspot + Wi-Fi iPad: Possible, but with drawbacks

“Awesome! So this means if I have an iPhone 4, there’s no reason to get an iPad with built-in 3G, right?” Well, no, that’s not necessarily true. I can think of 3 things you lose if you go Wi-Fi-only with your iPad and use your iPhone 4 as a hotspot.

Locked phone makes locked tablet

In most countries the iPhone is locked to whatever carrier you buy it from; the iPad has no carrier locks whatsoever, and you can roam between carriers (or between countries) at a whim.

Additional fee

Many people think that use the iPhone wifi hotspot + WiFi iPad saves money, the truth is that in several countries (most notably the US) you’ll pay an extra monthly fee to enable Personal Hotspot on your iPhone 4. In the States this comes to $20 per month, which gives you an extra 2 GB of monthly data, for a total of 4 GB per month on your iPhone’s plan.

Longevity

When using your iPhone 4 as a 3G mobile hotspot, you can expect the iPhone 4′s battery to last for only about five hours before it needs to be charged. But the iPad 3G supports 9 hours surfing over 3G.

Turn your WiFi iPad/iPod into 3G devices with a 3G WiFi hotspot

Recently I read an article which is about “How to turn Wi-Fi iPad into an iPad 3G with a 3G hotspot?” It mentioned a tool named E583C WiFi Hotspot (Here is an article about how to use E583C for an PSP), and actually it’s a kind of 3G Router which can be used as a 3G mobile hotspot by just inserting a 3G SIM Card and not other settings needed. It can share the network with at least 5 WiFi enabled devices without additional fee or longevity problem, and it is a unlocked 3G Router cost about 140 dollars.

HTC Rider official press shot leaked

The HTC Rider has been under wraps for some time now, and it’s finally made an appearance in the form of an official press shot. The folks over at Pocketnow got their hands on yet another leak and have shared it with the world. Judging from the pictures, it looks a lot like the EVO 3D and the buttons resembling those found on the HTC Kingdom. Then again, HTC phones are starting to all look like each other, so it’s quite hard to tell their new phones apart from frontal shots alone.

HTC Rider

The HTC Rider features a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, with Adreno 220 GPU and 1GH of RAM. It packs a 4.3″ qHD 3D display and in addition to supporting 1080p 2D/3D playback, it will have cameras to create 1080p 2D/3D content as well. The HTC Rider is expected to be sold by Korea Telecom later this year, with a speculated name change to “HTC X515E”. It looks like it’s going to be the HTC EVO 3D that’s meant for the rest of the world.

Sony’s PlayStation Vita official: $249 for WiFi, $299 for 3G

Sony PlayStation Vita

Details about Sony’s new handheld have been trickling out for months in the form of spec sheets and fantastic footage of its quad core capabilities. All that, and we still didn’t know how much she’d cost or when we could get our grubby paws around one. Thankfully for those tuned in at E3, said mystery is a mystery no more — the Vita will be listed at $249 for the WiFi-only model, or $299 for the 3G version. Sony’s Kaz Hirai confirmed will be available exclusively through AT&T, with both models shipping worldwide toward the end of 2011. For those of you camped out overseas, prices are set for ¥24,980 (WiFi) and ¥29,980 (3G) in Japan, while those closer to that other pond will see tags of €249 and €299.

The device, also known as the PS Vita, offers up six-axis motion sensors, dual analog controls (proper ones, with thumbsticks), front- and rear-facing cameras, an OLED touchscreen, and a touchpad on the back, too. The company showed off a number of top-tier titles, including Uncharted: Golden Abyss, a hack-and-slash RPG called Ruin, a new ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet, and Street Fighter x Tekken, each showing off plenty of motion and touch interactivity… things that we couldn’t be more elated to try for ourselves in due time. They’re all looking quite good, and honestly a bit more advanced than what the 3DS has delivered so far — for the same money.
